What are the SunPage service packages?

SUNPAGE has designed 1 numeric package to cater to the wide spectrum of paging and messaging needs.

Plan A Numeric Paging, priced at S$8.95 per mth
Plan B Message Paging, at S$14.95 per mth

Can you explain the features of each package?

Plan A Numeric Paging provides what local people are already familiar with. We have made this plan affordable for everyone, young and old.

As Singapore has a good telecom infrastruture and phones are easily available, this is really all you need to stay in contact. Adding the voice mail option at S$2 extra per month, and your caller can leave you voice messages in any languages.

Those who buy a Message Pager can also use this plan with the additional benefit of receiving Lifestyle Info Channel free.

Main attraction: cheap, convenient and hassle free.

Plan B is targeted at those who want the advantages of Message Paging but do not want to pay for the cost of Secretarial Service. And rightly so.

With Singapore's tight labour situation, it will be difficult for operators to continue keeping Secretarial Service pricing low. Besides sending numeric pages as usual, callers can use an increasing variety of methods to input alphanumeric messages, like Website paging, Email paging, PC paging, Alphanumeric message transcribers and for very short messages, via telephone keypads, using a new coding method sanctioned by TAS.

In place of Secretarial Service, subscribers can use the Voice Mail option to receive voice messages in any languages in complete confidentiality.

Main attraction: complete messaging package and no need to call back.

Plans B requires a Message Pager and come with free Lifestyle Info Channel.

On Email and Website Paging

What is the maximum length of an email page? And for the name  of the user, how is it extracted?

  1. Message length is limited to 100 chars which includes "[Sender's Name]+'Subject'+Message body" and all the punctuation marks and spaces in between.

An example of characters count, [John Lee] 'Re: Show tonight?' Want to watch Dante's Peak tonight? (The above message consists of 68 characters which includes "sender's name" + "subject" + "message body" )

  2. Name of the user is extracted from the sender's address.

I just got my pager and I was wondering why there is a limit as to  how many E-mail alerts I can have. Why is there this limit? It is a  little annoying when the limit is reached and my friends get a  message saying that they cannot mail my pager.

Currently there is a limit of 15 email messages a day inclusive of email alerts. We do understand your frustration of such a limit especially for active users.

On our end, we are also trying to deliver a good quality of service by not congesting our paging network as text pages do take up more bandwidth and hence resources.

As we are catering to more and more message paging customers, starting with a slightly conservative limit will allow us to improve our services later and at the same time tune our network to handle the traffic.

With regards to email alert, can I still read my email in my Internet address if I choose to have email alert? What happens if I have more than 15 messages a day, will I still get the email alert and are there any charges per message received (both email paging / alert)?

  1. Email alert will display only the sender's name and subject on the message pager. The body of the email can be retrieved from the subscriber's own email account provided a copy is kept there.

  2. The 15-a-day limit includes both Email alerts and Email paging mesages.

  3. 3.Currently there is no plan to charge on a per message basis. The flat rate remains.

Can a sender from overseas page through the website as well as through the email to a SunPage subscriber here in Singapore? If yes, why?

Yes, both email and website paging allows that. That's because these services are accessible via Internet, so as long as the senders are within the Internet community, anyone who's overseas can reach a SunPage Internet Paging subscriber.

A overseas friend paged me through Internet. However, his message always appears such that I only receive the name + subject +". For those in Singapore, I receive name+subject+content...Why?

This is not true for all overseas email pages. In this instance, the header of the email sent from overseas does not follow the normal conventions, causing our system to interpret it as one that is forwarded from the SunPage subscriber's personal email account, resulting in a page in the format of an email alert.

Next best thing is to have the overseas page sent via Web-Paging.

I have a question on how to retrieve message sent by my friend to my pager. My friend has sent me email (perhaps direct to website or email paging services that you have) but my pager is limited to a certain characters only so I couldn't read all of the messages. When I logged in to my account to retrieve the complete message , it was not there. Is there any way that I can still retrieve the message from my Internet account?

Sorry, the truncated messages cannot be recovered for website paging. Try to keep messages within the 80 char limit.

As for email paging, what you can do is this,
  1. Set up your Internet email account to forward email to your SunPage email address 9xxxxxxx@SunPage.com.sg. Instructions in "www.SunPage.com.sg/ourserv/vas.htm". They will be paged out as an email alert, i.e. sender's name + subject +.

  2. Ask your friend to send email to your Internet account.

  3. You can then retrieve the entire email from your Internet email account intact.

When using the email paging, it took very long for my friends to receive my messages. Does this mean that the service is not reliable? Will this happen again?

Email Paging is based on internet email standards. As is the case, there is no built-in reliability that the email will actually reach the receiver as the email could be delayed at any point in the routing path between source and destination.

Because of this nature, it is not recommended that you rely on email paging for urgent messages. Instead depend on paging thru' phone, web-site paging or via our operator-assisted paging services.

On Customer Service and Automatic Interception Service (AIS)
